The USAID TB South Africa Project supports local NGOs to assist TB patients on their treatment journeys and these NGOs in the Eastern Cape and Free State provinces accepted the Jerusalema Challenge:

  • Hospice Association of Transkei (HAT) - O.R. Tambo district, Eastern Cape
  • Tokoloho Foundation - Fezile Dabi district, Free State
  • Care Ministry - Nelson Mandela Bay Health District, Eastern Cape
  • Mfesane NPC - Nelson Mandela Bay Health District, Eastern Cape
  • Sophakama Community Based Development, Care and Support - Nelson Mandela Bay Health District, Eastern Cape

These community healthcare workers visit their TB patients daily to assist them with taking treatment, monitoring any side effects, educating them about infection prevention for both TB and COVID-19. They keep their patients motivated to continue fighting the disease to regain their strength, their health and hope for the future.

To date, the USAID TB South Africa Project has supported 25 000 TB patients through 46 NGOs. We proudly support the Department of Health to reduce TB infections, to increase the effectiveness of our TB response systems and to improve the care and treatment of those affected by the disease.
